The Art of Handcrafted Urushi Lacquer
The mesmerizing jet black dial is the SPB499J1‘s defining feature. It comes to life through the original Urushi lacquer, a traditional and crafty technique which has been developed and refined in Japan for thousands of years by making use of natural tree sap. The master craftspeople apply multiple layers, multiple cures and hand polish to each individual dial to create a glass-like finish, reflective of liquid ink. Due to the completely natural processes involved in the making of raw Urushi, each dial has its own microscopic differences, making no two watches ever exactly the same.
